    Position Announcement:  GIS Technician

    GIS Technician Position Description

    Under the direction of the GIS Project Director and Project Manager, the GIS Technician is responsible for providing GIS support to the various components of cultural resource management conducted by CSH. 

    The position involves:

    • ·       Georeferencing of historic maps and aerial photographs, with overlays of various GIS data layers to support historic background research
    • ·       Preparation of GPS equipment for archaeological field crews.  Post-processing of field-collected GPS data and GIS map production
    • ·       Creation/maintenance of cultural resources GIS data, including digitizing hard-copy data sources and entry of tabular data
    • ·       Production of high quality maps for inclusion in technical reports for submission to the State Historic Preservation or other agencies for review and presentation to project-related stakeholders
    • ·       Incorporating client-provided architectural/engineering plans and data (typically in CAD format) for GIS analyses

    Requirements

    An undergraduate degree in Anthropology/Archaeology, Geography, or related field and/or post-graduate GIS Certificate.  Experience with ESRI ArcGIS software, including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online web mapping.  Experience with hand-held (Garmin) GPS and mapping-grade (Trimble) GPS units is preferred. Candidate must be detail oriented with good communication, organizational, and multitasking skills, with high standards for cartographic design. Previous experience working with Hawai‘i cultural resources data and historic maps is greatly preferred. 

    Compensation

    CSH is looking for a permanent, full-time employee, averaging 40 hours per week. Compensation is commensurate with past experience, skills, education, and productivity. Pay packages include medical and dental insurance, a 401(k) program, a paid time off program, and a company profit sharing program.

    Job Description: Perform geospatial and non-geospatial tasks as a GIS Technician working with a GIS Analyst and other GIS technicians in a team setting. GIS projects will include development of GIS layers, loading and editing GIS data, performing basic mapping and metadata authoring. Field work at various locations will also be required using a Trimble mapping grade GPS. The data and photos gathered will be integrated into various products in support of GIS development. Will develop geospatial products and provide consolidated database and custom reports. Complete assigned tasks using GIS software packages and other database software and other duties as assigned.

    Requirements:

    Minimum 1-2 yrs experience using ArcGIS products.  The ideal candidate will be a team player, good listener, quick learner, and motivated to learn.

    Candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Office.  Other geospatial software used in this office includes SDSFIE tools, ERDAS Imagine, Trimble GPS software, and Adobe Photoshop.

    GIS experience is the most important factor.  Will consider education and potential to learn.  Must provide references.

    Must have good communications and interpersonal skills, both oral and written, to interface with managers, engineers, scientists and other personnel.

    The GIS and Database Lab Manager will be primarily responsible for mapping the grounds and plant collections of the Arboretum, developing and managing a plant accessions database and serving as the point person for Lyon's information systems and maps with staff, visitors, and researchers.

    Applicant must have a BS degree in GIS or a related field, 3 years of GIS experience and the demonstrated ability to use GIS and GPS software and equipment, among other qualifications.

    Full time GIS (ESRI ArcGIS) support to Marine Corps Base Hawaii Logistics, Planning and Facilities Dept.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    - Create, maintain and QA/QC data in Versioned Enterprise Geodatabase (SQL Server).

    - Translate CAD, GPS, Engineering Designs, Technical Drawings accurately into GIS.

    - Georeference digital (AutoCAD) and scanned engineering/technical drawings.

    - Collect and Post-Process Mapping Grade GPS data (Trimble).

    - Interpret Engineering/Technical Plan Drawings and As-Builts.

    - Create print and digital map products with attention to design principles and cartographic standards.

    - Work with end-users to determine GIS needs.

    - Deliver data sets & metadata to end-users.

    Preferred Skills/Experience:

    - Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

    - Experience working within the GeoFidelis Data Model, or other SDSFIE and DOD compliant geospatial data model.

    - Experience working with geometric networks for utilities (Water, Sewer, Storm, Electric).
